Summerhouse® varieties should be grown under some type of structure, for most climates.  In certain areas, a polyethylene cover on a simple structure in the winter and up until period of warming up in late spring will give your plants an earlier start, improved stem length, and a better bloom when the prices are the best.  Once summer comes on, then switching out the poly with a shade cloth. (We like the new reflective shade cloth materials  which are cooler underneath.  Remember, it needs to be a cloth made for external use, especially to withstand the wind.)  In the early fall, remove the shade cloth and put the poly back on to extend your crop later into the fall sales season.  Many of the Antique™ and Freelander® varieties benefit being grown under this system.
